Awoiska Van Der Molen- 'The Living Mountain'

The work looks at the untouched natural wonders of the world and how they provide a significant essence in natural landscapes and also to show a historical visual representation of where we came from as humans. These natural wonders provide us with renditions of what the landscapes looked like hundreds of years ago helping us to gain an understanding of how nature has transformed with human presence but also natural changes.

The Living Mountain is work around the idea of Carbon. Carbon is an element that is an essential source in human life and makes up more compounds than any other element. It is what creates the natural wonders of our world that we appreciate and capture photos of. Most carbon you can't even see but you appreciate the impact that it has on the natural world. By looking at these images we see these wondrous landscapes and the idea that carbon has helped in creating this image worthy seen.

To me i found that Van Der Molen's work had a real focus around the ideas of peace, meditation and serenity. These ideas are very similar to my work and what i am trying to emulate. The work shows us that Carbon provides us with an understanding and interconnectivity with earth/ the universe to understand that it is a foundation for our entire existence. Without this we would be left blind to never understand where we sit and even how human were brought into the universe. It develops a connection and understanding into the paradox and functionality of human existence on this planet.
