Megan Doherty "IMG Models"

Megan Doherty is a Northern Ireland photographer based in Derry. Her work is based a lot around fashion and youth culture. For me the work that really inspired my fashion project was IMG Models in which she began using a model by the name Lenny for a shoot to promote her modelling career under the model agency IMG Models.

Megan was hired to capture one of the models for a commercial project to help expand a models image portfolio. The reason i find this work really fascinating is the way she is able to capture certain characteristics of the model in quite a simplistic form without over selling anything. I found that eye contact can be really powerful in showcasing character in an individual as yo begin to feel engaged and interested without ever knowing who this person is. This is why i feel that within my own work by building a connection between the viewer and the model i believe it can create a much more powerful image rather than just it becoming a regular boring photo anyone could take. Her work uses a very simplistic colour pallet and doesn't glamourise her images to keep a much more realistic look about her photos. She also allows the lighting to be fairly dim as it then stops it overpowering the main focus of the image (the model) but still helps to highlight all the models perfect features while dimming areas that may not be needed or want to be shown for the specific image Megan is capturing.

In my view Megan creates a selection of images in IMG Models that are almost perfectly made without ever really needing elaborate sets, clothes, colour, etc. It's all about understanding her subject and knowing what sort of lighting or background will really show off the models features in the best possible way. For my own work i will try using lighting from multiple angles to define the features of my subject and create new angles and perspectives to see what can work well for the rest of the project.
