Week 5 Review

Finally, i have come to a decision on what i want to photograph for my project around the concept of landscape. The idea came about by accident when i was feeling stressed, i left with my camera and nothing else and went for a walk around around the woodlands that surround my house. I began to feel very calm and thought that actually i would love to keep revisiting and making work here. I spent about 2 hours walking and photographing parts of the woodland that made me feel calm and also what looked peaceful by being untouched from human activity.

While wandering around the woodlands i began noticing a lot of natural pathways that had been formed by walkers, runners and other individuals who have passed through the same area as me. They were almost leading me towards new and hidden areas of the woodlands that not many people would have seen or noticed. I then decided at that moment that this is where i will create and develop my project.

Now when it comes to considering an idea about the woodlands, i wanted to incorporate the pathways and how they have been created over time but also how they begin to change as the woodlands evolves and that it brings us to these new points of interest that sometimes can take your breath away. However, as much as i began liking that idea, over the course of the walk i thought about maybe looking at how the woodlands changes your mood so drastically in a way that benefits you. You feel much more at peace with yourself, relaxed and begin to develop a connection to the landscape around you. Anyway i need to have a think on how i will link the images i am making to a contextual idea but hopefully after some discussions and tutorials i will be able to come to a conclusion/ end result. After my walk i spent time evaluating what i had thought about, learned and discovered and began making notes to help me summarise this week along with an action plan for the next few weeks. But the only negative is i don't have a vast knowledge on landscape photographers so will need to find out more in my tutorial. I have started looking at Ansel Adams who was one of the best in landscape photography and have begun analysing his approach to the way he works along with his book "Yosemite and the Range of Light" to understand how to fully utilise my lighting to create dramatic imagery.

Overall, this week has helped me in creating a big leap in my final project and i finally have an understanding as to where i want my imagery to develop towards. I will have a chat in my tutorial to try and learn about more landscape photographers, possibly even from the lectures as well. But my main focus will be to keep on shooting some of the images and really increasing the amount of content in my research book.
