Week 6 Review

So through this week i wasn't able to shoot as much as i like but i still managed to develop some more images that i will be able to show in my tutorial. I began shooting on a tripod as free handed wasn't helping the quality of my images and provided much more freedom into what i can make. I had went out once within the week and made a few more images when the weather was really sunny and bright creating streaks of light that shone through the trees creating a warm feeling within the images.

But there is still something missing. My tutorials have gone well and we have managed to dissect what my idea is about. I need to start looking more in depth at how we connect with the land and the feelings we get from this connection. For me i found it quite challenging as i wasn't entirely sure what i needed to be capturing images of. But in a way it was beneficial as it slowed down my creative process and allowed me to really analyse what i was trying to capture and help to link that with the meaning behind my work.

I started looking at the tree tops and the light shining through and how it highlighted all the branches and colours of leaves that looked as if they were all connected from tree to tree. The images almost reminded me of a family tree and how everyone is connected in some way and how there is a bond. Which began drawing me back towards the idea of connecting with the land. In my opinion i feel as though i need to try creating work in less perfect conditions and start experimenting in different lights, rain and even some wind to really gain a whole range of imagery of how over time the landscape can change providing more visual aspects. Van der Mollen was a great example to look at which her work the 'Living Mountain' focused on carbon which is within the trees and other natural sources. The work looks at what connects these elements and how they have a relationship to us. I want my work to have an idea that isn't just interesting but something that people can find some relation towards. For my project i want the idea of calmness and stress relief to be the main focus of this body of work. That anyone that enters the woodlands or sees the images i have created feels some form of meditation due to how still the woodlands is.

In conclusion, i will evaluate my works overall meaning to see if i can explore its contextual understanding with my audience. I shall decide on what ideas will make sense along with what will work well with my project to make it reach its full potential. Not only will the idea be my main focus i shall also look at expanding my various ideas and understand what will be successful for my final images. I shall review my projects progression after next week.
