Re-evaluating my idea

Now after a period of time i realised that i was getting nowhere with my project and it was not allowing me to expand to a more detailed and insightful body of work but stay very stagnate and without any purpose. The project had too many problems in which we highlighted in a tutorial. Firstly, i wanted to look at celebrity style photos but none of my friends have the same purpose and status in the images that many celebrities have. Therefore, i want to look at nature and how we connect with the landscape around us.

I came up with this idea when i want on a walk and felt calm and at peace after a very stressful week. I proceeded to wander through the woodlands and began to feel at calm and had a sense of wonder about all of the untouched land that laid around me. At this point i knew this was the direction i wish to take my project. I spent a couple of weeks going to and from the woodlands that is around my house with just myself and my camera and capturing parts of the woodlands that i felt either relaxed around or felt a connection to. After collating all of the images i had made over the course of a couple weeks and thinking about the meaning of the work i began to see i was missing something significant that would truly elevate the level of my project.

There was no connection between artists i was inspired by and the images i was making. I ended up not having a powerful image and they had no real meaning or anything working with them at all. I felt determined to change this and proceeded to slow down with my time in the woodlands and truly think about why i was taking photos of these specific parts. I also looked at Lee Stitt who is known for making work in which the images are dark and of things that you expect to move as they are captured in such away it almost looks like someone has paused a video. Over the next few weeks i will continue to read through his website and view his work to really ensure that i know how to emulate similar images for my own project.

With all this in mind i have changed my original idea and will look at how individuals react to a specific landscape and how people feel connected in their own way. I will use black and white to keep the attention away from the colour and focused more on the way i have composed my images, the textures, shapes and sizes of parts of the landscape viewers see. That way by actually studying what is in front of them the viewers can begin to develop their connections with the landscape without ever actually visiting. I have also rewritten my synopsis which i will include later on in the booklet as i am still making some improvements on the vocabulary and overall structure as well. But, i feel as though this will be the idea i take forward to finish the project and will also look to keep expanding the idea further down the line.
